I had a fantastic appointment with Dr Walton and the Dietitian today -- even though I had to wait an hour for Dr Walton! I have now lost approximately 55% of my excess body weight. Jess said that based on what I have lost so far I should be at my goal weight right around my 1 year anniversary of surgery. That is much sooner than I expected! Dr Walton was very pleased with my progress. Dr Walton stressed that he can not change genetics or society so behavior change is the most important. I told him that I have not been tempted at all by all the cakes, candies, and cookies that are around this time of year, or by pasta, rice, or bread. He said that was a very good sign. I am still in the honeymoon phase, which lasts until about 9 months post op. He said that if I have the same attitude at this time next year then he can without a doubt assure me that I have conquered the bad behaviors. I plan on it being so. He showed me my pictures taken at my consult visit and I never want to go back to that person!!!!!
Jess said I am right where I should be with my portion sizes. I did ask her about calories and she said not to worry about the number. As long as I am eating protein first, veggies second, and fruit sparingly my body will get what it needs and I will continue to lose weight. They only thing I need to do is continue to work on getting my calcium in (I am not alone in that struggle) and slowing down while eating. That is the hardest and she said it is something I most likely will always have to remain conscious of -- an old habit I acquired from my years of working in the ICU where I had only a limited time to eat.
Now if they could only find a solution to being cold all the time! I was almost late for my appointment as they had a portion of the Kilpatick Turnpike closed due to ice falling from the bridges. That backed traffic up onto Broadway Extension, which is already a mess! My thankful thought for today -- I will be thankful when winter is over!!!
