Another Off Topic Post

Ever since Giorgi's recent testing and IEP meeting I have been researching non-stop. Over the weekend I emailed the Oklahoma Disability Law Center. Today I received a call back from one of the lead attorneys. She was appalled when I told her some of the comments that have been made by the school. I faxed her copies of Giorgi's IEP as well as some of the medical and psychological evaluations I had with me. I will fax the rest tomorrow. She said from what she could tell so far, we definitely have a case for inappropriate education having been provided. One of her biggest concerns was the inability of the school to keep Giorgi safe. She said she definitely wants to work with us and will be attending the meeting with us on 9/29. She will take care of notifying the school of her attendance, which means most likely they will have their attorney present as well. I wish I could see the look on Dr Heatly's face when he finds out!
Giorgi will have a MRI completed on Thursday but the attorney does not feel it will make a difference in her approach. She does not plan on focusing on a change in category to TBI as Oklahoma views it as an injury that occurred in between the difference in the 2 IQ results so she wants to focus more on the education methods. I was concerned that keeping her listed under OHI would not afford her vocational training in the future, but she assured me that she would still be entitled to this. I feel better about it now that I have an advocate on my side! Please pray that Giorgi does well with the MRI. I have no idea how she will react. They are sending me to a site that has a doctor on site just in case she needs to be sedated. The next thing I need to do is prepare her for riding the Special Ed bus. They turned in the request for that today.
A little on topic -- I am so much more confident and assertive since surgery. I don't think I could have done this same thing last year!
